You won't believe how much is going on in the world of Ruby on Rails lately. Some of it I can't talk about, but there are nice contracts, hot startups, and lots of work flying around for people in the industry. I'm lucky to be ahead of the curve for once, as in terms of applications released, I'm somewhere in the top ten Rails developers in the world, and I missed out on all the other boats!
The industry is gagging for more coders, particularly here in the UK. I'm trying to find coders in the UK to group together with to land an interesting contract, but the pickings are slim. (Note: If you're a UK Rails coder, drop me a line ASAP!) I also put the call out to Seattle based Rails coders recently, and while I got a few nice replies (thanks!), most were from people who haven't had developed any major Web-based systems with it.
Web hosting companies are sensing the rapid growth of this industry too, with Site5, DreamHost, PlanetArgon, and TextDrive all offering Ruby on Rails support, and doing very well out of it too. I predict that a host that doesn't support Ruby on Rails in twelve months will be as useful as a host that doesn't support PHP now.. that is, useless.
So, it's probably the buzzword and development fad of the next few years, and if you get in now, you're just ahead of the curve. Rails is rolling fast, and lots is going on. Thanks for bringing the good times back, David!
