Konfabulator was a Dashboard-like "widget" system for OS X that was around before Dashboard. They were pretty angry when Apple took their idea for their own and implemented it into OS X Tiger, so they switched from OS X to Windows, and sold their software in that market.

It paid off. Konfabulator has been bought by Yahoo! (I just love the little drawing they have celebrating the sale.)
