To those who read between the lines, the fact that FeedDigest has finally launched will be no secret, but I haven't properly announced it here yet, so, yes, FeedDigest, successor to RSS Digest, is now officially launched.
Feed Digest is, essentially, a tool which processes RSS and Atom feeds (sometimes known as "news feeds"). A lot of services output RSS feeds now, such as BBC News, and most other news and weblog sites. Feed Digest lets you take any feeds you like, mix them up how you want, and then output them in HTML, JavaScript, PHP formats, and so forth, so you can include links to the feeds' items on your Web site. So, you can put the latest automatically updating BBC News stories, your del.icio.us bookmarks, your Audioscrobbler tracks, and so on, on your site. It's what powers the "Latest Bookmarks" section at the top of this very blog.
I've been deliberately keeping the pace of the release slow. There's only one of me, and a massive explosion wouldn't have worked. So far there's a steadily growing fire, and I've got enough hose to keep it under control ;-) (Interpret that as you will!) One great gauge of the slow burn is del.icio.us's backlinks for the site. It's going up consistently, but not too fast. It means I can keep ironing out any bugs people point out, and not have too many complaints.
There's a list of about twenty five "must do"s in front of me now, so it's all busy around here..
Hm! So you're the creator of FeedDigest, Peter? That's certainly been making the rounds of the blogosphere. I spotted it on Populicious and HotLinks. http://dev.upian.com/hotlinks/archives/2005/07/29/#item40516
Posted by: Jonathan Aquino at July 31, 2005 02:37 AMYep, that's all me :) Hard bloody work though!
Posted by: Peter Cooper at July 31, 2005 02:55 AMGot it up and running in a few minutes flat, excellent coding and blends in to my site perfectly. Thanks again!
Posted by: Aaron at August 2, 2005 01:36 AMI just signed up. Amazing. The process was intuitive and- just as promised- I was sharing my del.icio.us links in under two minutes using FeedDigest.
Did I mention that it felt intuitive? Maybe because I was already an RSS Digest user, but... It just seemed fast and cool. I even did some rough formatting to my links.
Nice work, Peter. FeedDigest has been worth the wait!
