For my own interests I shouldn't share this idea.. but as a blogger, it's demanded :)
I've been an avid Adwords user since early 2002. Back then it was great, you'd get top positions for 5-20¢ per click. As time passed, it got worse for small fries like me, and now it's more of an art than a science. But today I've found how us little guys can use Google's little-publicized new features to get mega results once again.
The background.. Last week I launched FeedDigest, a service which lets you mix RSS and Atom feeds into JavaScript or PHP to put on your blog, or into a new aggregated RSS or Atom feed. While it's had lots of nice press, I wanted to up the ante and get it in front of everyone in the field. It was then that I remembered reading about a new feature Google launched recently...
So what was it? CPM-priced site-targeted AdWords ads. Basically you choose any site running AdSense and get your ads on it automatically. You specify the maximum you want to pay per 1000 impressions (views) of your ad and off it goes. Your ad will not run for every single page reload, and may not appear at all if your CPM is too low, but my results on a low budget are highly encouraging.
More encouraging is how the ads are shown. Check out these real examples of what I've achieved:
On Anil Dash's blog..

On Brad Feld's blog..

On Blogging Pro..

I'm not going to show any more of the examples as I don't want to give away all of my choice locations ;-)
See the size of those ads!? It's not always that big, but these are common examples. Your ad will be the only ad shown (in a single ad unit), which is an advantage on its own, and on some sites.. particularly niche sites, you can get tons of clicks for $NOT_VERY_MUCH.
So, use this to get your blog, your product, or your idea up on any blogs you want which are running AdSense. It costs from as little as $2 per 1000 impressions. Run Democrat ads on your favorite Republican blog.. run Linux ads on Microsoftie Web sites.. you can either be serious or have a laugh. In either case, it's worth a few dollars to see what boats you can rock in your industry or niche.
