I've always been into music videos ever since I first saw the chunky virtual reality of Money For Nothing by Dire Straits as a kid. MTV, VH1, MTV 2 and all the other channels have been 'okay' over the year, but none have really impressed me (though MTV2 was great for a while).
I always thought bands should make their videos available easily, but other than a few DVDs here and there, it hasn't happened. Some artists put videos on their CD singles, but it's too few. It seemed there was never going to be a solution to getting music videos easily. iTunes Music Store eventually began to sell music videos, but the selection was (and still is) pitifully small, and who wants to pay 2 - 3 times more for a video than the actual song? Videos are meant to promote music sales.
Along comes YouTube. YouTube lets anyone upload videos and makes them easy to watch online. In many cases, people are flagrantly breaking copyright laws by making videos available on there, but I'm grateful that there's now an easy way to find thousands of great (and rare) music videos. For example, Stevie Wonder performing Superstition on German TV.. not a common video, but one of my faves, and easily found on YouTube.
Go dig on YouTube for all those old music videos you want to watch again. A lot of them should be there.
