Fly to the South Pole

Southpole

I've found yet another thing I want to do one day (when I have the money and the time, in that order!). Fly to the South Pole! It costs $33,500 per person which sounds steep but is a bargain for what you're getting. You get to stay on Antarctica for a week with a day at the South Pole and the Amundsen-Scott research station. I'm surprised it doesn't cost more actually, because I would have thought most people with that sort of disposable cash would be rushing to go.

Of course, if anyone wants to sponsor Laura and I to go to the South Pole for you... :-)

Something I always wanted to do but never will now.
Still you can go for me and bring back a ton of pics and video tell me all about it.
In a way I have already helped toward the sponsorship. ;)
But to give you a start I donate £50... yep straight up.

Damn, that'd be really cool (both figuratively and literally).

My latest plan it to take the Trans-Siberian Railway on the next trip to Japan. Why fly in 14 hours when you can spend over a week on a train for less money! :) Also have to spend 2 nights on a cargo ship from Vladivostok to Japan. Fun!

Well wait till we have the other 30+ grand and we'll come looking for that £50 ;-)

How much does that train cost, Alan? Sounds fun, but not sure I have the cultural balls for Russia.

The cheapest route is about $320 for the train, $280 for the boat, so just over 300 quid one way. Well, you have to get to Moscow first too. But still a viable trip.

Although going through Russia and China then sailing from Shanghai to Japan is a little more expensive but apparently more scenic option.
