Over 100 requests per second!

I was intrigued as to why Feed Digest's requests tripled so far today. I just measured 1800 requests over 14 seconds, about 120 per second. Turns out one of our biggest customers is one of the biggest US newspapers and everyone's flooding online to read about the current voting fiasco (broken machines, long lines, people having to drive to multiple places to vote). Wow!

It's keeping up with it though (with a little caretaking). 120 requests per second is about what the whole of Google was handling in early 2000, so it's kinda scary to see it happening on your own kit.

Peter, any chance you could enlighten us with a little more detail on your setup? Is Feed Digest still a Perl app or have you ported to Rails yet?
