I've been an avid user of iStockPhoto for a couple of years now and I've used the photography from there on nearly everything. Even Ruby Inside's logo is an adaptation of an illustration I got from there.
Thing is, the prices have kept going up since I first started there (when everything was $1) and some illustrations now go for as much as $20 (possibly more). I've decided not to fight the market but join it. I'm no pro photographer but I occasionally produce something non vomit inducing. The key step to selling your photography on there is to upload three sample photos to demonstrate that your photos are of a good enough quality. I went with these three (click for full versions):
Not amazing photos, but hopefully they'll do the trick. I was tempted to go with some more colorful options, but I like the composition of these three (all totally by accident, I assure you).
Hopefully I'll get approved and sell a small number of photos so I can keep my iStockPhoto habit alive without hitting the credit card. I am also considering getting into the illustration side, as I've produced a few good bits and pieces over the years. I'll update you on my progress. If you're selling stuff on iStockPhoto, drop me a line or post a comment here. I'd love to hear about your experiences.

I can't comment on the post about on the Advent Calendar, so I'll do it here.
Great idea and I'll save the bookmark. It brings me back to the days I was still innocent and actually couldn't wait to open each little door.
I'll be back the 1st of December
